Mrmark: Depends on what way you look at it. I have unreleased/undumped games in other regions, but "unreleased" in the US I have at least 30 unreleased NES prototypes. And yes, most of them have now been dumped, but I have a bucketload of games released in PAL format NOT released in the US with full NTSC versions with varied differences...Trolls in Crazyland, 2 or 3 different Noah's Ark games, Corvette ZR-1 Challenge, Mr. GImmick, New Ghostbusters II, etc...

This isn't even counting things like that EGM John Madden Football UBISOFT thing, or the only Mike Ditka's Big Play Football with the "real" title screen, legal info, game stuff, etc, that's not dumped either...

Most of the unreleased ones released on Lost Levels are in my hands...or came from my hands, and that's another 10-15 right there...including that Famicom Pescatore Sunsoft game...

I don't make/reveal NES prototype purchases publicly anymore. I still have varied sources and I stopped adding games to my list recently because I've been too busy with work, but I am still involved with these from my own personal sources.

To set the record straight about a few other things, the drx Hidden Palace proto prices for the Mega Man games were full the actual carts, not the dumps. If they seem high, it's an open market end, and I'm not apt to sell them. THat is what it would take to sell them just like it would take $500 for your brother to sell Super Jeopardy for NES.

I know you have an issue with my prices being high because you have purchased your games cheaper, but again, unreleased games on open market will go very very high. Look at that unreleased Genesis game on eBay right now. THat thing is going to go through the roof. It's the nature of the open market and open market value for these games are higher than what you pay, and possibly lower than what I charge, but there really is no market value for unreleased items, it all depends on what "someone" is willing to pay.
I know for a fact I have around 350 or more NES protos, about 70+ Famicom protos, and another 600-700 other cartridge protos for other systems, and have sold about 3,500 disk protos in the past 2-3 years....I'm just glad to be rid of those disk protos, ugh. Well, most of them =) I think I kept a few...

To be honest Jason, those are probably some of the best points you've made. If those Mega Man prices were for the actual carts, although I still think they're a bit high (which is totally irrelevant), it's very different than you asking that much for the dumps.

As far as undumped, unreleased NES games, I still think I'm pretty close to you at this point. I wasn't counting unreleased in the US but released elsewhere (I'll be dumping one like that and releasing it for free shortly), I was just thinking strictly unreleased. Not that it's a contest, if it came down to who has more protos for the NES you would win 10 times over (and if it were all protos, it wouldn't even be close). I get more irritated with people thinking you've cornered the market on protos or that eventually you'll end up with every NES proto that is around. I'm about 10 years behind you and I'm doing alright with collection.

Sell what you want, charge what you want, it's all good. You made some good points and kept a cooler head than I usually do and I can respect that.

This is true. It's because very few people are prepared to spend as much cash and time as Jason does on this stuff.

Few people, sure, that's true. But like I said the amount of unreleased undumped NES stuff that I have is comparable to the amount of unreleased undumped NES stuff that Jason has at this point. I'm no stranger to spending $1k+ for unreleased stuff that I want, and there are more out there like Dream and I than you'd think. Jason's collection is number 1, no doubt about it, it's not even debatable. He is definitely not the only player in the game though, that's what people seem to be missing.

What I mean is, the people who moan Jason 'cornerning' the market have found a scapegoat. What they'd like is have his collection while doing nothing. They think it's unfair that somebody ELSE has a collection and not them and they blame Jason, thinking about constantly more and more inane excuses for doing so.

When in fact he didn't 'corner the market' with 'magic' and 'hoarding'. He simply worked hard to get his collection to the state it is in now. Same goes for any other major collector.

MrMark: Eventually your games will be in the same boat as mine since you are releasing them =)

If I did not release any of my unreleased stuff, it would be pretty silly right now, but that's the nature of the beast. If I see a proto I don't have, I'll try and purchase it, if not, whatever. Money is money, and if someone wants to pay me good money for a proto, I will sell it, hard to turn that down in this economy, that is for sure...

But yes, I have not really been a "player" much in this for awhile and I'm looking forward to seeing when you guys are releasing some more games...

I know for a fact most of the really crazy unreleased stuff I have now in all territories is centered on Genesis and Super Nintendo...I've already had most of the NES stuff distributed, and it's hard to find more and more of these things as years pass, so released protos I am fine with as well, I don't have any issues collecting those, but I don't want these things to just sit here, I want people to play them, but to me it will always be a bad business decision to give away something for free. I don't want to spend money/time giving away items all the time because people "expect" that nowadays, but won't spend the money like you or I to obtain the games....

Except you'll still have 4x as many as I do Wink

I agree with you on your SNES and Genny stuff. People seem to associate you with NES protos while I think more of the crazy SNES and Genny stuff you have. Not brushing off stuff like the LoZ and War on Wheels protos, I just think some of the stuff you have for the SNES and Genesis is down right ridiculous.

Anyway, good luck getting some cash for dumps/sales. I don't think you'll need it as the interest from several forums seems to be through the roof.

I've got some pretty high end NES stuff that was released like the Dragon Warrior stuff and Zelda proto, but I just don't think it's highly publicized or anything...the NES is my favorite system, and that's probably where that stigma comes from since I love all Nintendo based systems...

I think the Genesis stuff is long overdue for these guys, it was more of a find the right person type of crowd. I think if I put some of these on Yahoo Japan auctions, the Mega Drive freaks would come out in droves....
