There really isn't much general hatred of a whole community here, I've just got some problems with assembler himself. It doesn't come up very often, and he seems to have chilled out quite a bit, but I just can't abide by someone who tries to get a really nice guy fired for no reason, and has the kind of ego needed to pull off that whole fake Sonic X-Treme thing, not to mention blaming an entire community (Sonic fans) for "failing" to come up with $2,000 for something, sight unseen, in two days. You want to talk about generalized community hatred, it's over there. It ain't here.

And as for the topic of discussion here, I still haven't heard an answer as to why the auction was covered up, and why a related thread was deleted. And until I get one, I'm left to assume the worst.

The guy's posts here aren't exactly helping my impression of him, either. I'd never heard of him before, but based on the bile he's vomiting up in my forums, my impression is that he's a douchebag likes to stir up even more shit than this druid fella.

As you have problems with me redeye, I have issues with you as well.

You come to my forum to sell items, then ask me to delete your posts once you cash in on the forum members.

As to ace and his forum, it's fine if you like to read whole forums of posts made by the same five people.

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. The only thing I remember selling was the X-Treme disc, which I got a small kickback from (not much, just beer money really), and I don't remember any of that being deleted. Other than that, I can't recall the last time I managed to sell anything, given how lazy and stupid I am when it comes to having to go to the post office and actually ship something.

I'm not saying you're lying, I just can't recall anything like this ever happening. If I ever asked for something to be deleted, it must have been for job security reasons, or maybe because I said something I shouldn't have?

In any case, just so it's said somewhere, I've (again) contacted you privately to try to sort things out, because I'm really goddamned tired of relying on what I hear from others. I'd prefer all this negativity go away, or at least to a forum that isn't mine. It's getting stupid around here, to the point where even I'm part of the cause.

But there are two distinctly clear sides. One side would like to dump and release content otherwise unobtainable to share it with the world, and to save it's place in the history of our hobby. The other side would like to keep it in their closet and talk about how valuable it must be by now. One day, they might even sell it so they can make all sorts of monies and have smug grins.

With the exception of a rare handful of extremists (in fact, I can only think of one), the "other side" you're describing does not exist. It may surprise you to learn that people who collect things as a hobby are sometimes nice people, and further that their reasoning for protecting investments is, often, a valid concern.

Blanket statements like yours set a bad example, and help nothing. You'll get farther in life learning to understand other viewpoints, instead of making enemies.

Ok, I'll admit the faults in my statement.

I do understand their viewpoint to a degree, although I won't go as far as to say I agree with it. I'm not trying to make any enemies, nor am I trying to single anyone out. I can certainly understand someone not wanting to dump a cart they just dropped a few grand on, to get nothing in return but a thread full of "thanks" on a few forums.
I meant for my post to be on the lighter side anyway, just poking fun but this probably wasn't the right thread to do that in, what with all the high tensions.

Not really, there's a lot of grey area. Do you think i really want to horde Barbie's Horse Adventure? No, but i have a high level of confidence that Hasbro goes out of it's way to protect the image of Barbie and has a history of lawsuits.

95% of my stuff is modern, from the PS2 on up. The rights are still held by companies who intend on further marketing their properties. The heart of the halo1 beta is a 4 meg file that i could have on every fileshare in the world by midnight. The reason i don't isn't because i'm looking for 2K monies, it's because i signed some nasty legal agreements, and Microsoft would be pissed.

On the other hand, anything i pick up off of Ebay is fair game unless the seller says something. I figure any developer/reviewer who puts a game on ebay can't be too concerned about it leaking. Even then, i still have to wait a few years after the game is no longer viable in the marketplace to avoid pissing off the developers.

It ain't all black and white, there's a lot of grey in there. Everyone has their own reasons for doing what they do.

Eat Communism!

It's true. I have some modern-ish stuff, but there's no way in hell I'm doing anything with it for a good, long time, if ever. I mean, the kind of stuff Lost Levels does is so old and obscure that their copyright owners have probably never even heard of the games. Well, with the exception of Final Fantasy 2 I suppose, but I don't think anyone really cares, especially considering how popular the unofficial translation is already. I can't possibly conceive of a way that downloading that inferior version could hurt sales.

Is this from when it was still called "Marathon: The Last Hope" or after they decided to change the franchise?

I actually have 2, one is the E3 demo, it's not very interesting. And the second is this one. It's very close to the final build, but still has the debug commands enabled.

Interesting none-the-less. I'm still trying to find evidence of "Marathon: The Last Hope" because for some reason Bungie denies any link between the two franchises. I used to work for a 3rd party QA that had posters for Marathon: TLH back when they were testing it, then they started testing Halo, but the posters stayed up. Whatever...

If your worried about the legal aspects, Consider forming a fake release group and leaking it onto P2P. Sure, You wont get credit, but who's to say you cant put a "greets" to your site in the nfo?

Big ticket stuff like Halo though Id avoid like the plague. Its just too hot.

Which brings me to a question. Has anyone here ever done a story covering their prototype (a modern one) for a large franchise such as Halo and the like? Im wondering if anyones ever been contacted/sued for an article (not a release)

Just curious as I've been holding off on some things out of fear of legal action.

We've come a long way since publishers just wrote the reviewer's name on the disc with a sharpie. The security teams for the manufacturers (Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo) can go so far as to tell the serial number of the compiler that built the prototype. I've had one proto that went so far as to try to phone home to microsoft's servers to report that it had been stolen.

In this day and age, it's almost always possible to trace back a leak to whomever created the file.

As for people getting sued for talking about things... I simply don't know. Logic would state that if you do piss off a publisher, they should give you a chance to take down the offending article before perusing legal action. In reality, you should probably talk to a lawyer if you're concerned. If the publisher thinks they can prove lost sales due to your website, i don't think they would hesitate to sue you for it.

Capcom in particular has a very long memory....

I just happen to run a website that gets 75% of assembler's users (going by ip address, using an image i still have linked on his site).

So if you would like for this to become public knowledge with assembler's users, may i present you with a blank canvas?

Hey Skitz, long time no see...

Apparently the bots are doing pretty well, the project seems to have left IBM, but is still being actively developed. Last i had heard, even sony was a sponsor of one of the tournaments...

You can check it out yourself at http://robocode.alphaworks.ibm.com

Hope to hear from you soon!

You're a very angry person! I'm kind of sad that you have no dirt on me though.

I'm not going to delete your post or anything, but don't do that again, especially not in this thread. I've had enough drama around here lately. If anyone is going to directly reply to anything, do it somewhere else, please.
