Yeah, very sorry for the thread-necromancy, but there's one thing I can't figure out about this whole mess, and haven't been able to find answers about anywhere I've looked. Most accounts of the whole debacle goes something like "Sonic Cult does April's fools joke, some Cultists get angry" and then "some Cultists DDOSes ASSEMbler". But how are those two thing connected? Why did the Cultists attack ASSEMbler for something that Sonic Cult did?
I totally understand if you don't want to discuss this stuff anymore, but I'd be very gratefull if someone would explain the connection between the prank and the DDOS.
The prank and the DDoS were actually 2 different events. Assembler was DD0S'd for 2 reasons. One was the fake sonic xtreme he pretended to sell, and the second was simply because some of his forum members were getting tired of his crap.
TRIVIA: While the DDoS attack was performed by one of the cultists, it was actually set up by one of the people Assembler trusted the most.

Ah, so it was only ASSEMbler himself who suggested that the two things were connected, then?
EDIT: I see now that ASSEMbler actually suggested that it was his banning of the people responsible for the prank from the ASSEMbler forum that made those people do the DDoS. Not that I think that's true or anything, ahem.
The guy who did the ddos was not a cult member, infact he ddosed the cult once. As far as the "cultists gone mad" issue, there were actually people banned at the cult becuase they spammed the assembler board.
Assembler decided to blame the cult because they stole his Sonic Xtreme thunder, Assembler was not the sole resource of material from the real game anymore. Thats why he did the fake auction too.
Ever since he has been calling the cult all kinds of weevil place, last time in that Retro Gamer interview.
Heres a glimpse of the maturity of the issue: After Sanik removed the watermark from assemblers anigif, assembler signed up with an account named "Sanik_kiss_my_ass" (ip matched to him).
